COTEAU du LAC

Some fast racing yesterday at Coteau du Lac, especially from NTC Victoria, with athletes on every podium. Congrats to coaches Patrick Kelly, Carolyn Murray, and the NTC athletes.

Ontario was well represented, with a fantastic race by Andrew Yorke (C3) to win the Elite Mens race, and juniors Alexander Hinton (RTC Guelph) and Joanna Brown (ByTown Storm) finishing second and third in their respective races.

There were lots of positives for the rest of the RTC-Guelph crew with some challenges - that's racing.

Special thanks to Coaches Greg Kealey, Lorri Zagar and Patrick Kelly for supporting our crew in my absence.

WELCOME TO GUELPH...

Two videos demonstrating some of the things that Guelph Running has in the works. We're fortunate to be able to occasionally train with the Speed River crew, but more importantly to be exposed to a sporting culture of excellence which spans community involvement to high performance. A great model, which could be replicated elsewhere (maybe everywhere?). Definitely worth a look:

CANADIAN ROOKIE NARROWLY MISSES PODIUM

Canadian Rookie Narrowly Misses Podium Against World’s Best at Prestigious ITU Triathlon Elite Cup in Iowa

www.triathloncanada.com

DES MOINES, Iowa — Canada’s Paula Findlay proved once again she is ready to race against the world’s best triathletes after the rookie narrowly missed the podium in one of the most prestigious triathlon races of the season in Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Edmonton native matched strides with three of the world’s powerhouses in the sport in the 10-kilometre run to finish fourth at the ITU Hy-Vee Triathlon Elite Cup with a time of one hour 59 minutes 54 seconds (1:59:54).

“I had no idea I could do this today. I’m still so surprised,” said Findlay, who earned $20,000 US for her performance. “I was racing girls that I am always watching on television and to be able to keep up with them is just amazing for me. The money is a nice little bonus, but I never even thought about it today.”

CAMPS

Summer is upon us, and that means an exciting season of great racing, and fantastic training camps. See below for two great opportunities for youth & junior athletes:

FUN2TRI CAMPS

Coaches Lorri Zagar and Jay Johnson are hosting two week-long camps in July, in Collingwood, ON. I can't say enough good things about these coaches, or the great camps they run; both are NCCP Certified Competition Coaches with ample experience coaching at domestic and international youth & junior camps. There are a few spots left at both camps, but don't delay. Details below, including a link to contact and registration info:

When:

KOS 11-13 Camp: Sun. July 18 – Sat. July 24, 2010

KOS 14+ and Junior Camp: Sun. July 25 – Fri. July 30, 2010

Where:
Collingwood, Ontario
For accommodations, we have rented a large chalet at the base of Blue Mountain. We have a caterer who prepares lunches and dinners and we prepare the breakfasts.

Registration and contact info here.

GRYPHONS TRIATHLON CAMP

For those families in the Guelph area, the Gryphons are offering a great day camp option for youth (age 10-14). This was a popular camp last year (sold out) with great feedback from parents and athletes.

More details here on page 48.
